Ginger Monin
The first recorded use of ginger dates
back to two thousand years ago when dried, powdered ginger was exported from
India to Europe in Roman times.
Its name derives from a Sanskrit word meaning “horn-shaped", referring to the
ginger root whose shape is reminiscent of a horn. In Medieval Europe, ginger was
enjoyed so much that it was thought to come from the Garden of Eden.
Ginger is a "warming" spice that is currently being rediscovered, together with
other classic spices. Beyond classic uses in ginger snap cookies, Asian food and
ginger ale, Ginger imparts an exotic, subtle spiciness to many foods and
beverages.
